Kia ora, I’m Leanne. I’m a New Zealand Artist based in Tairua on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Usually you’ll find me in my studio, most likely with a four legged friend in tow. Painting is my happy place and my creative outlet.

I studied art at school and considered a career in graphic design, but after spending some time travelling overseas, I became fascinated by the fashion industry and in particular hair colour and design.

After training with several leading hair salons and professional companies, I returned to New Zealand and opened a salon in Auckland specialising in colour and colour correction.

Interestingly what I learned about colour in that industry has given me inspiration and a good foundation of understanding of the technical aspects of the painting that I do now.

I began displaying my paintings in my salons initially for aesthetic reasons, but when people started asking to buy them, I was blown away and I began to gain confidence in my process. I really enjoy creating work for the pleasure of others.

I’ve been experimenting on canvas for over 20 years with a mixture of mediums and the art journey has been a great source of pleasure with its unexpected turns and rabbit holes.

I have a fondness for abstracts which began at the Art Station in Ponsonby many years ago but again I find myself drawn back to the sea and the sky with all its fascinating light changes.

Living on the Coromandel is a dream with easy access to the most amazing scenery and inspiration for indulging my current painting passion for water and seascapes.

I’m fascinated by the natural landscapes of Aotearoa, and I am inspired every day by the colours and the effects of changing light and its influence on the land and water. The scenery is nothing short of magical and it captures my imagination and pulls me into its beauty.
